This was me...
When I got my first chunky leadership role, I was completely thrown in at the deep end.
There was just WAY too much to do!
As soon as I took the role, stuff came at me thick and fast. Decisions to make. Both day to day, and for the longer term. Everything seemed to be changing fast and it felt like I couldn't keep my head above water.
I wasn't confident enough with my team.
I knew the business. I understood the policies and processes. I knew the numbers. But I was pretty sure my team thought I wasn't up to the job. I mean... I wasn't sure I was up to the job! Let alone confident in telling them what I thought or what to do.
It felt like I was working REALLY hard, but not actually getting anywhere.
I was juggling so much stuff that I'd get home exhausted and stressed, and I'd never really feel on top of anything.
I couldn't talk to anyone about how hard leadership was.
I couldn't talk to my boss - because I wanted her to think I was completely on top of everything. I couldn't talk to my team - because they had to trust and respect me, and I didn't want to put my insecurities on show.
And that last one was the hardest.
Who do you talk to?
Yes. Leaders need structured ways to think and act.
Systems and processes for DOING leadership.
But they also need people they can talk to about leadership.
People who've been there.
People who are there right now.
